Investing in Hope: CEF Contribution to Children's Mental Health

Hope Institute of CUSD

Child Health Day serves as a poignant reminder that a child's mental health is just as vital as their physical well-being. In the heart of the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD), families and students now have access to an invaluable resource—the Hope Institute. Located on the Perry High School campus, this institution is a beacon of hope for those grappling with mental health challenges, particularly suicidality.

The Hope Institute: A Unique Approach to Healing

What makes the Hope Institute of American model so unique is its distinctive approach. It is firmly grounded in the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), two evidence-based models that have proven highly effective in addressing suicidality. CAMS and DBT serve as the bedrock of the institute's programs, providing a solid foundation for helping individuals in crisis.

Short-term Outpatient Care: A Timely Solution

According to the Arizona Child Fatality Review Program, in the six-year period between 2009 and 2015, Arizona’s annual child suicide rate increased by a stunning 81%. Today, suicide is the third leading cause of death among adolescents aged 15–19 years. The situation could not be more urgent. One of the most significant aspects of the Hope Institute is its focus on short-term outpatient care, ranging from 6 to 12 weeks. This approach acknowledges the urgency of the situation and strives to provide timely assistance to those who need it most. The program includes individual counseling, group counseling, and intensive outpatient options, tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.

Chandler Education Foundation's Contribution

In line with our mission of investing community support into educational opportunities, paving the way to lifelong success for CUSD students, the Chandler Education Foundation was honored to provide a financial contribution to the Hope Institute. We hope that with this support, the Hope Institute can offer a lifeline to those navigating the turbulent waters of mental health challenges.

Hope for a Brighter Future

As we observe Child Health Day and reflect on the importance of nurturing children's mental health, the presence of the Hope Institute stands as a symbol of hope. It is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there are resources available to help children and families find their way towards healing and recovery.

Together, we can continue to raise awareness about children's mental health and ensure that every child has access to the support and care they need to thrive. The Hope Institute is not just a place; it is a testament to the power of collective action and the resilience of the human spirit.
