John Mulvihill Memorial Scholarship
(2 available) - $1,500
The John Mulvihill Memorial scholarship is established by his widow, Taragh, and their two children, JT and Claddagh. JT and Claddagh were students in CUSD80 when John was diagnosed, battled, and eventually passed away from Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). The support and love of the teachers, coaches, counselors and fellow families during their time of need will never be forgotten.
John's life was defined by so much more than his battle with glioblastoma. He was known for his passion for sports. There was not a sport or a game he wouldn't talk about or watch although he preferred to cheer for his children's teams, the Yankees, Jets, and Seton Hall Pirates basketball. He took up an interest in hiking and golf, especially after moving to Arizona twenty years ago, and treasured his rim-to-rim Grand Canyon hiking adventures. He loved to grill and use the smoker and enjoyed testing new recipes and entertaining others with his delicious creations. John loved to travel and found himself drawn equally to road trips to ski or hike as well as more unusual international adventures often prompted by Taragh or another "bucket list" opportunity. John was well educated and well-read and believed in hard work. John found joy in most anything he did- especially if he was surrounded by family, good friends, fun conversations, and laughter.
John was a man who brought so much kindness, joy, and laughter into everyone's lives. His request was that we always celebrated a life well lived not mourned a life lost too soon. We carry on John's wish for us to live the best life possible. In the establishment of this scholarship-his family hopes to embody John's joy of life, his love of laughter, his compassion, and his generosity to others.
